Dairy Queen may have been hit with a data breach similar to Target that could put customers at risk of credit card fraud.

UPDATE: SEPT. 2: Ken Geihsler, the owner of the local franchise, said today that the Dairy Queen locations in Amarillo and Clovis are NOT affected by this recent data breach.

      ORIGINAL:

Dairy Queen may have been hit with a data breach similar to Target that could put customers at risk of credit card fraud.

Officials at Dairy Queen say the potential data breach is connected to the 'backoff' point-of-sale malware, the same malware that hit Target stores last year.

However, the franchise did not say how it was notified, how widespread the breach could be or how long it may have lasted.

A Dairy Queen spokesman said franchisees, who operate most of Dairy Queen's 6300 stores are not required to report fraud to headquarters.
