Crews battling 2 fires near Fritch

UPDATE: 6:19 p.m.

The High Plains Fire has been GPS mapped at 501 acres by the Texas A&M Forest Service. It is reportedly 70 percent contained.

Crews have constructed a containment line and are mopping up hot spots. No homes were lost.


UPDATE: 5:27 p.m.

The Hutchinson County Office of Emergency Management has lifted all evacuations. Fire crews are still working in the areas and residents are advised to use caution and watch for them.

Fritch Fortress Road remains closed but is the only closed road.


UPDATE: 5:02 p.m.

The voluntary evacuation for the Sanford area has been lifted. According to the Hutchinson County OEM, the evacuation order for the High Plains Road area remains in effect.


UPDATE: 4:47 p.m.

The Texas Department of Transportation has announced that FM 687 in Hutchinson County has reopened.

The Borger Maintenance section is continuing assistance with fuel needs for first responders.


UPDATE: 4:28 p.m.

The High Plains Fire in Hutchinson County is being estimated at 700 to 800 acres with 30 percent containment, according to the Texas Forest Service.

Forward progression has been stopped with 20 to 30 homes threatened but none have been lost.


UPDATE: 3:45 p.m.

The Hutchinson County Office of Emergency Management has issued a voluntary evacuation for the Antelope Creek and Sanford areas.

Evacuees are asked to proceed toward Borger or across the dam but not to take Highway 687 towards Fritch.


UPDATE: 3:18 p.m.

The Texas A&M Forest Service has responded to a request for assistance on the fire in Hutchinson County.

According to TFS, the fire is estimated at 150 acres with very active fire behavior.


UPDATE: 2:55 p.m.

Sanford-Fritch Independent School District has announced that bus routes have been altered due the fires.

According to the District, bus 18 will not run, students that take bus 18 will be taken to the Junior High cafeteria where parents can pick them up. The bus will run once roads are back open.

Bus 4 will run a reverse route. Students in the Amarillo Road area will also be taken to the Junior High cafeteria and parents can also pick them up. The bus may run later once the roads are back open.


UPDATE: 2:33 p.m.

Highway 687 is being closed from Fritch, on Eagle Boulevard, to Sanford, the Hutchinson County OEM says.


UPDATE: 2:19 p.m.

According to the Hutchinson County OEM, residents west of 687, south of Sanford Yake Road, are under a mandatory evacuation. The evacuation site is Celebration Church, located at 811 East Broadway.


UPDATE: 1:59 p.m.

Residents in the area north of the High Plains area fire are being asked to evacuate into Fritch or Borger, according to the Hutchinson County Office of Emergency Management.

Celebration Church is also accepting evacuees.

Fire crews are responding to two different fires in Fritch.

According to the Borger Fire Department, the first fire was reported in the area of the Blue Creek RV Park near Eagle Boulevard and Fritch Fortress Road. The fire is reported to be moving north.

The second fire reported in Fritch is in the High Plains Road area. Residents are being asked to avoid the area.
