A head on collision 2.3 miles east of Amarillo on I-40 resulted in the death of both drivers on March 8 at around 8 p.m.
A 2000 Toyota passenger car was traveling against the flow of traffic in the westbound lanes of I-40 at around 60 miles per hour when it struck a 2008 Lexus passenger car head on. Both drivers, Griselda Garcia, 47, and Gary Schwitzer, 60, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace Judge Debbie Horn.
The Toyota passenger vehicle came to rest in the median between the east and westbound lanes of traffic. The Lexus came to reset in the median between the westbound lanes and the north service road.
