Copper thieves rack up more damage than profit
Fri, 04 Apr 2014 21:35:50 GMT —
Officials with the Texas Department of Trasportation (TxDOT) say a recent copper theft has caused $40,000 worth of damages.
Sometime last week thieves cut the locks at a power box located at Farm to Market 1151 (Old Claude Highway) and Juett Attebury Road.
They were able to cut the power and steal the copper wiring from within.
The value of the wire was just more than $1,000, but TxDOT said it is the damage they caused that will add up.
"That's money that the taxpayer has to fork over to fix these lights," Paul Braun, TxDOT spokesperson, said. "That's money that's taken away from pavement, from fixing potholes, from things that we need to work on..."
