Community Options raises money to send people with disabilities to its 25th anniversary celebration

Community Options, a nationally based non-profit that works with individuals who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The Amarillo office held a scramble fundraiser at Smokey Joeâ??s this weekend to help raise money to send 10 people in their program to the celebration this May in New Jersey.

Desiree Banda, a Community Options volunteer, said they will be paying the travel expenses for each person.

â??We support about 128 individuals in Amarillo and the surrounding areas,â?? Banda said. â??And weâ??re hoping to take several of them to the celebration because many of them havenâ??t been out of Amarillo.â??

Each trip costs about $3,000 and so far they have only raised $1,800.
