Clovis police investigate 2 Thursday morning homicides
CLOVIS, N.M. (KVII) —
The Clovis Police Department is investigating after two men were killed early Thursday morning.
According to Clovis police, one subject was a 43-year-old man, identified as David Lopez of Clovis. The other was a 30-year-old man, identified as Carlos Gallegos formerly of Albuquerque.
Police said CPD Dispatch got a call just after 4 a.m. from a subject who said they had been "shot" in the "back" at an apartment in the 1000- block of Martin Luther King Boulevard. When officers got to the apartment, they found Lopez lying on the floor. He was unresponsive.
CPD said officers and ambulance crew tried to save him, but attempts to save his life were not successful and he died.
Police said during the original call, officers heading to the scene saw a vehicle that had gone off the road and hit a fence near the intersections of Aspen Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. When officers approached the vehicle, they found Gallegos deceased in the driver's seat.
CPD said their Major Crimes Unit is investigating both incidents as homicides.
