A 21-year-old Clovis man has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of a Melrose man and a Texas woman.
Anthony Casillas is accused of shooting 52-year-old Gary Payne and Melissa Ward, 36, of Lubbock, while the three were riding in a van in Clovis.
District Attorney Matt Chandler says the victims and the suspect were riding together voluntarily, but he wouldn't say what sparked the Sept. 25 shooting.
Casillas surrendered to police about a week after the shooting.
Witnesses say Casillas and Payne had worked together with a silage company and had a history of friction.
