40-year-old Michael Vargas was found guilty of 24 counts of child abuse by a Curry County Jury.
In October 2010, two children in his care reported to a social worker that they were being tazed. According to a new release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney Matthew Chandler, the children had been tazed approximately 24 times over a two month period leaving burns on their stomachs and arms.
"It is unconscionable that anyone would ever consider using a stun gun device to punish a child," said District Attorney Matthew Chandler. "I commend the children in this case for having the courage to come forward and put their abuser behind bars."
Vargas is in custody on a $25,000 cash only bond. He currently faces 72 years in prison.
