Clarendon wants farmerâ??s market

Chandra Eggemeyer is the Clarendon Economic Development and Tourism Director.

She wants the city to put up a farmerâ??s market at 4th and Kearney, across from the Post Office.

"Itâ??s a great location," she says, "the Post Office is a meeting place. Thereâ??s plenty of parking and itâ??s owned by the city."

Theyâ??ll construct a pavilion on the spot. Customers will walk down the middle and shop from both sides.

Sheâ??s going to apply for a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Local producers love the idea.

A public hearing last Thursday resulted in overwhelming approval.

Eggemeyer says many Clarendon producers are already traveling to Amarillo and other locations to sell their goods at farmerâ??s markets.

She says folks in Clarendon want closer access to those goods also.
