The Don Harrington Discovery Center hosted its first weathering the storm event for children and parents.
The center planned the event to help children understand the science behind severe weather. From tornado machines to hail stations, the center set up different hands-on activities a mixture of common weather conditions experienced in the Texas Panahandle.
National Weather Service meteorologists helped children prepare safety plans in the case of real emergencies.
Nearly 400 children have attended the event since Friday.
