Child hospitalized with life threatening injuries after wreck


riday June 28, 2013 at approximately 6:35 p.m. Amarillo police officers responded to a car v. pedestrian wreck in Wal-Mart parking lot in the 4200 block of Canyon Drive.

When police arrived at the scene they found a 1999 Toyota Corolla had entered the parking lot when the driver lost control of the vehicle. After hitting a curb and service pole, a tire blew out and the vehicle continued on and struck another vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala before coming to a stop. 24-year-old Hamdi Omor was identified as the driver. A women and two children were getting into the Impala at the time of the wreck and the Corolla hit one of the children while they were waiting to get into the vehicle.

The victims were transported to a local hospital. One child was transported with life threatening injuries. That child's condition has stabilized.

According to Amarillo Police Department, speed was a factor in the crash. APD's Traffic Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
