The Canyon Independent School District has released a statement after an incident involving a stranger at Hillside Elementary School on Monday.

According to CISD, the incident happened during PE class while children were outside.

The Amarillo Police Department said a woman pulled up to the area in a burnt orange Subaru Outback, got out of the vehicle, walked up to a little girl and handed her a bottle of nail polish. The woman then got back into her vehicle and left the area.

APD said the PE aide was watching while this was happening and thought it was a parent handing medicine to her child. However, the girl brought the nail polish to the aide. Then, two other children handed the aide green toy army men that they said the lady gave to them. The aide did not see that happen.

CISD said the school began an investigation as soon as the incident was reported and an APD Liaison Officer was called. The officer went to the campus to investigate.

"The safety of our students at Hillside Elementary is a top priority to the district and we are reinforcing with staff and students playground safety," CISD said.

According to CISD, they have asked officers to increase patrols around the school during the day when students are outside.
