Canyon High to participate in National Student Walkout tomorrow
CANYON, Texas (KVII) —
Students from Canyon High School will participate in a National Student Walkout tomorrow in remembrance of the 19th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine on April 20, 1999.
According to organizers of the walkouts, the goal is to get politicians to see that students are tired of the lack of action on the subject of school violence. If the protests continue to be ineffective in getting lawmakers to develop new legislation, then the students will work to get them voted out of office in the coming November elections, according to the National School Walkout website.
More than 2,100 walkouts have been planned across the country. The walkouts are scheduled to start at about 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.
So far, Canyon HS is the only local school ABC 7 Amarillo is aware of participating in the nationwide walkout. Stay tuned for updates on other schools in our area possibly participating.
