Cannon Air Force Base identifies 3 Airmen killed in crash

Three crew members died after a Cannon Air Force Base aircraft crashed Tuesday night. (ABC 7 Amarillo)

Cannon Air Force Base said 33-year-old Captain Andrew Becker, 29-year-old Captain Kenneth Dalga and 26-year-old First Lieutenant Frederick Dellecker died when the U-28A aircraft they were on crashed Tuesday evening.

The Air Force Base said Captain Becker was a pilot for the 318th Special Operations Squadron and was from Novi, Michigan. He is survived by his spouse, mother, and father.

Captain Dalga was a combat systems officer for the 318th Special Operations Squadron, according to CAFB. He is survived by his spouse, son, and mother and was from Goldsboro, North Carolina.

First Lieutenant Dellecker was from Daytona Beach, Florida and was a co-pilot for the 318th Special Operations Squadron. Cannon Air Force Base said he is survived by his mother and father.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families and friends of those involved in this tragic accident,” said Col. Ben Maitre, the wing commander. “In doing so, our focus is to also support our larger Air Commando community as we prioritize safe mission accomplishment in both our training and operational commitments.”

The aircraft crashed around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday about one quarter-mile east of the Clovis Municipal Airport, according to Cannon Air Force Base.

It happened as the crew conducted a "training sortie."

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to CAFB. Officials say the Airmen's remains have been taken to Albuquerque for autopsy.
