Cannon Air Force Base aircraft crashes outside Clovis airport
CLOVIS, N.M. (KVII) —
A Cannon Air Force Base aircraft crashed near the Clovis Municipal Airport Tuesday evening, according to officials.
The Air Force Base said a U-28A with three people onboard crashed during a "training sortie" around 6:50 p.m. in a field just outside of the airport.
Airport Director Kyle Berkshire said it was about a half of a mile away from the airport in an open field.
He said 21st Street is shut down from County Road C to Texico, New Mexico.
There has not been any confirmation on the condition of the crew and their names are not being released until that confirmation has been made and next of kin has been notified.
Cannon Air Force Base said the crash caused a fire which was put out by local first responders around 7:40 p.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
