Burglary related chase ends in east Amarillo

Two people were arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading police on a chase and burglarizing an Amarillo residence.

Amarillo Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Tradewinds after a report surfaced of a home owner pursuing two suspects the home owner had caught burglarizing her home. APD later learned that shots had been fired during the incident and that the home owner's property was inside the suspect vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the gold Lincoln Continental and attempted to stop the car when the driver refused and continued northbound on south Arthur, leading officers on a short chase. The chase ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a street sign and came to a stop in a yard. APD said the driver then attempted to flee the scene running into a residence in the 1700 block of south Cleveland.

The residents of the house informed officers that the suspect was inside. Officer then told the suspect to come out at which point the suspect came out and was taken into custody.

Officers were able to link property found inside the vehicle to the residence in Randall County. APD said a passenger of the vehicle will be booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a weapons charge and the driver will transported to the Randall County Sheriff's Office.

RCSO is investigating the burglary and APD said the names and charges of the two suspects will be released when they are booked into jail.
