'Bomb City' continues conquering film festival circuit

The film based on the life and legacy of Brian Deneke continues to nab big awards on the film festival circuit. The film, Bomb City, was written and directed by Amarillo natives Sheldon Chick and Jameson Brooks.

Bomb City exploded onto the scene after premiering at the Dallas Film Festival in March and has been raking up awards ever since. At DIFF, the film won the Audience Award and Best Narrative Feature.

After DIFF, the film went on to show at the Nashville Film Festival in April, where it won the Audience Award in the New Director Competition for Best Narrative Feature . The lead actor who plays Deneke in the film, Dave Davis, brought home the Special Jury prize for Best Actor.

In June, there was a private screening of the film at the Austin Film Society, where five-time Academy Award Nominated Director Richard Linklater gave his take on the film.


Most recently the film nabbed awards at the Louisville's International Festival of Film. Bomb City took the Knockout Audience Award for Best Film and again, Davis won Best Actor. In Louisville, the film got the IMAX treatment and was also chosen to headline as the opening night film of the festival on Sept. 14.

The most recent awards make three strait festivals of Bomb City being the audience's favorite film.

The film will now move on to show in Bend, Oregon, at the Bend Film Festival Oct. 12 through Oct. 15, then to Wichita, Kansas, at the Tallgrass Film Festival Oct. 18 through Oct. 22.

In each city where its been shown, the tickets to the show have sold out quickly. Bomb City wrapped filming in June of last year.

A post on the Bomb City Facebook page says, "We're also working hard on the future Amarillo, TX event as we speak so stay tuned!"
