Body found in Dalhart

Investigators are trying to determine the identity of the body of a man found in Dalhart Saturday.

An autopsy performed in Lubbock today determined the badly decomposed body was of a man who died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officials say a handgun was found nearby.

The Hartley County Sheriff, Franky Scott says, "A young man had left home, wandered off intentionally Thursday evening sometime, had located a body. When he returned home he told his parents and they, in turn, went to look and see for sure and then they notified the authorities."

Hartley County authorities retrieved the body and it was sent to Lubbock for the autopsy.
