Back-to-school information parents need to know

In just a few short weeks, the 2013 - 2014 school year will kick-off. Meaning parents are scrambling to get those back-to-school supplies, immunizations, and their student registered for school.

For Canyon Independent School District, they're asking parents to register their student online before August 7th. This process offers a convenient way to submit registration information. The district says process will allow families to review, confirm, or edit information directly. On August 7th and 8th, you will bring required documents to your child's campus to complete and finalize your registration. You can register online, by clicking here.

For Amarillo Independent School District, registration will be Monday, August 12th and Tuesday, August 13th. Parents need to check with their child's campus for times.

But no matter what school district your student attends there are basic documents parents must take to the campus to finish the registration process. They are, proof of residency with a current utility bill or lease agreement, the student's social security card, immunization records, and a birth certificate. If you're unsure if your child is up-to-date on their shots, school officials say a school nurse will be on site to go over that with you. They'll also have locations of places to get those immunizations at a reduced cost.

As far as school supplies, you can check your school district's website for a list of those. AISD says they've actually made the list a lot easier for parents this year.

"We have really simplified that now in AISD. We have a common list of school supplies for all elementary campuses and for all middle and high school campuses. So it will vary some by the grade level, but there's not a specific list for each elementary," said Margaret Wills Elementary Principal, Chris Altman.
