Ascension Academy hosts Cardinal Trail Run

The first ever Cardinal Trail Run was held this morning on Ascension Academy's new track and surrounding 40 acres.

Nearly 175 runners gathered for a nice trail run and a little fun.

Runners were cheered on as they covered three miles and received awards after the race, as well as free breakfast.

The winning male and female trailblazers were Jacob Myer with a time of 17 minutes and 41 seconds and Kaci Lee with a total time of 21 minutes and 37 seconds.

Proceeds from the run help to offset the cost of educating students at the Academy.

"Ascension Academy is a college preparatory school for grades 6-12. we have programs for everybody, including fine arts and sports," said Ascension Academy representative, Charee Godwin-Smith "We offer just a little bit more in a little bit smaller setting for people who want more for their kids for education."

Event organizers said the event was a success and they hope to have another run in the future.
