APD: Wanted man arrested after crashing stolen vehicle

29-year-old Shaman Lee Cooper was arrested Friday after crashing a white pickup into the fence of a house in the 2000 block of south Bonham.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, an off-duty APD officer saw the pickup leave the road and crash into the fence. The driver was attempting to leave the scene of the crash when the officer made contact with him.

APD said Cooper was anxious, he could not provide a driver's license and was unable to explain his connection with the owner of the pickup. The officer thought the vehicle was stolen so he arrested Cooper. Further investigation confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from an Amarillo parking lot on February 12, 2014. APD also noted that Cooper was wanted on a Gray County warrant for theft over $100,000.

Cooper was booked in to the Potter County Detention Center for the warrant and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
