APD to increase law enforcement over holiday season

Amarillo Police Department wants you to know that APD officers will be taking steps to ensure safe Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Thanks to a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation, extra officers will be on control to focus on catching impaired drivers, speeders and those not wearing seat belts over the holiday season.
So far this year there have been 28 fatal traffic wrecks resulting in 30 deaths. 14 of those collisions involved impaired drivers, 13 involved the use of excessive speed on a part of the drivers involved. And 10 fatalities involved people who were not properly restrained inside the vehicle. APD said it will use the TxDOT grant to make keep these numbers from increasing.
At this time APD is asking motorists to avoid drinking and driving, obey speed limits, wear your seat belt and make sure children are properly restrained.
APD said motorists should expect strict law enforcement from officers.
Have a safe and happy holiday season.
