Amarillo Police Department will have extra patrol officers beginning now through Sunday July 7, 2013. The extra patrols are funded by a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
According to APD the extra patrol officers will focus on stopping impaired drivers through the July Fourth holiday.
In a news release APD said July Fourth is considered one of the most deadly holidays for drivers. Each year thousands are killed or injured in alcohol related crashes.
APD said it will be enforcing this DWI campaign. Drivers that are stopped can be given a citation or arrested regardless of blood alcohol content.
Remember, there are negative consequences to DWI. Penalties include jail time, a suspended driver's license and as much as $17,000 or more in fines, fees and expenses.
Please take the necessary precautions this coming holiday and make proper arrangements if you plan to consume alcohol.
