APD searches for armed robbery suspect


PDATE: 23-year-old Desmond Rashad Blackshere was arrested Thursday February 6, 2014 after Amarillo Crime Stoppers received an anonymous tip. APD detectives identified Blackshere as the suspect and charged him with aggravated robbery. Blackshere was booked in to the Potter County Correction Center.

Investigators are searching for the suspect involved in an armed robbery Saturday evening in Amarillo.

Amarillo Police Department officers responded to an armed robbery call at Toot'N Totum in the 1300 block of east 10th Avenue on December 7, 2013.

According to APD, two employees were working at the time of the robbery and told officers that a man entered the store twice before pulling out a handgun and demanding money. The employees told police that the suspect came into the store initially, bought a drink and left before reentering the store when all other customers had left.

The man then approached the register, pointed a silver colored handgun at the clerks and asked for the money. The employees gave the man the money from the registers and the suspect took the money and left the store. He was last seen heading south on south Houston walking away from the store.

According to APD, the suspect is described as a clean shaven black male, 5-foot-9-inches tall and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a logo on it. The man was also wearing blue jeans, a white shirt underneath the hooded sweatshirt and white gloves.
