APD finds jewelry thief hiding in dumpster

6-year-old Dennis Charles Carlson was arrested Wednesday after police found him hiding in a dumpster after allegedly stealing from EZ Pawn.

According to Amarillo Police Department, officers responded to a theft call in the 2600 block of west 6th at approximately 1:45 p.m. When officers arrived they learned that a white male had entered the store, used a hammer to smash the glass of a display case and stole 16 diamond rings and ran from the store. APD said the suspect later dropped all of the rings which were returned to the store.

When officers were searching for the suspect, they noticed several dogs barking in the 400 block of south Kentucky so they began searching the area. One officer began looking inside dumpsters and found Carlson hiding inside one.

Carlson was arrested and booked into the Potter County Correction Center for theft and criminal mischief.
