APD apprehends suspicious prowler

Monday evening at approximately 6:15 p.m. two Amarillo Police Department Officers observed a suspicious subject lurking around businesses in the Bell and Interstate 40 area.
According to a news release from APD, one officer stepped out of his vehicle and approached the subject while the other officer remained inside the vehicle asking to speak to the subject. The suspect looked at the officers and began to walk away. When the officers identified themselves to the man, he began to run.
Police chased the man, who began throwing items on the ground as he ran. Police caught the man and took him into custody. During the investigation police learned that a vehicle had been broken into and officers recovered stolen items during the chase. Officers also found a .38 caliber handgun that the suspect tried to throw.
APD identified the suspect as 36-year-old William Dale Pachta. Pachta was booked into the Potter County Jail for felon in possession of a firearm, evading arrest, burglary of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
