Animal Control case presented to grand jury

Allegations of improper euthanasia practices at Amarillo's Animal Control landed the city facility in front of a Randall County grand jury Wednesday.

A Randall County grand jury heard details Wednesday on the case of allegations of improper euthanization at Amarillo's Animal Control.

Randall County Assistant District Attorney Robert Love said no decision has been made to prosecute the case.

"We presented the case to the grand jury today, but they asked for further investigation," Love said. "We are going to present the case to the grand jury again in two weeks, but this may take additional grand jury sessions until a decision is made."

The Animal Control investigation began in April when concerned citizens questioned the euthanization practices at the city facility.

Currently the director and assistant director are on paid administrative leave.
