Amarillo organizations WOW at scholarship luncheon

Women on the Way is a scholarship program for women in the Amarillo community looking to pursue a higher education.

WOW hosted their 3rd Annual WOW Scholarship Luncheon to help raise money for academic scholarships.

The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo Women's Network, International Association of Administrative Professions, and the Texas Business Women of Amarillo joined forces to plan the event. They offer scholarships to women who are looking to pursue a college career after early motherhood, single mothers, or those that were unable to attain a college education earlier in life.

"We're looking for women who have been raising children, or have not had the opportunity, or maybe they were in college and then left college and they want to go back to finish their education," said Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Director Penni Bentley.

'I'm an older student, decided to go back to school, and I think they all want a little bit of encouragement for those who are intimidated by going back and I just wanted to share that," said Veloz.

Veloz is a Bilogy major at West Texas A&M University and hopes to pursue a career in nutrition after graduation.
