Amarillo man charged with intoxicated manslaughter after deadly wreck

A man sits behind the Potter County Sheriff's Office Jail charged with intoxicated manslaughter following a crash in downtown Amarillo that killed a woman.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, at 12:37 a.m. Saturday officers were dispatched to 9th and South Pierce on a motor vehicle wreck. Upon their arrival they discovered a 2010 Dodge 2500 driven by 37-year old Billy Don Ware of Amarillo had been southbound on S. Pierce. Police say the Dodge hit a 2006 Chevy Cobalt driven by 51-year old Mary Nancy Encinas also of Amarillo. The Chevy has been eastbound on East 9th. Encinas was taken to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries. An autopsy has been ordered by the Just of the Peace Nancy Bosquez.

Amarillo Police say alcohol and speed are factors in the wreck. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
