Amarillo local gives pets a home away from home

For most, retirement can mean plenty of free time, but for Nancy Billups, free time is not what she had in mind when she opened Rowdy Dogs Pet Resort.

"It was just a crazy idea, to tell you the truth it was my husband's idea," Billups said. "I traveled for a living for 25 years, and I was tired of traveling and I worried when I was gone about my own dogs and who was taking care of them."

Billups and her husband had the kennel built on the comfort of their own property, where the dogs are offered grooming, treats and as much play time as they can handle. The $180,000 facility is custom built to cater to a variety of dog breeds of all different sizes.

"Really great top of the line kennel panels, lots of room to exercise, safe fencing, privacy panels, just everything to keep animals happy and safe," Billups said.

Rowdy Dogs Pet Resort opened two weeks ago and has expanded their services to ferrets, rabbits, and hamsters. Billups said she has found her passion in taking care of people's beloved pets.

"Dogs are our life, our whole life revolved around them, taking care of them, helping other people with their dogs and it was just a service I know I'd be good at," Billups said.

Although this is one of the smaller boarding kennels in Amarillo, pet owners are welcome to meet Billups and tour the facility.
