Amarillo firefighters battle two story duplex fire

A two story duplex caught fire Sunday morning causing an estimated $30,000 in damage.

The Amarillo Fire Department said they were called to 7201 Montague just before 7:30 a.m. The fire spread from the windows on the first floor to the exterior on the second floor. A second alarm responded to assist with the fire attack and to stop extension into the adjoining unit. Authorities said there was heavy fire damage to the living room and heavy smoke damage throughout the involved side of the duplex. The Fire Marshal's office investigated and determined the cause of the fire was accidental. No one was hurt. The Texas Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the occupants with their immediate needs.
