Firefighters from the Amarillo Fire Department worked a structure fire on the 1200 block of N. Monroe early Monday morning at an abandoned two-story apartment building.

According to Fire Chief CPT. Larry Davis, crews arrived at about 6:50 a.m. and discovered fire showing on the first and second floors. Crews began extinguishing the fire and entering to search for any possible occupants.

The fire was called under control at about 7:20 a.m.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office determined the origin of the fire to be in one of the bathrooms in one of the first floor apartments. The cause of the blaze has been ruled as undetermined.

Due to the state of despair of the building, no estimate of damages has been made.
