Amarillo FD advises residents on the use of drones during wildfires
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
The Amarillo Fire Department is reminding citizens that with more and more drones popping up in the area, air support cannot fly with drones in the air during a wildfire due to possible collisions.
According to Texas A&M Forest Service, an unmanned aircraft system can help first responders in times of disaster to get a birds-eye view of the area.
However, unauthorized flights over wildfires will result in suspension of aerial firefighting efforts due to safety concerns for the flight crews and responders on the ground.
