Alcohol believed to be factor in Saturday's crash outside of Fritch

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the head-on collision that took place outside of Fritch on Saturday evening.
Gabriel Chavez, 38, of Pampa was driving southbound on Highway 136 in a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer when he crossed over into the northbound lane, striking a 2008 Dodge Caravan that was traveling northbound. The Blazer spun around and came to rest in the center of the roadway, facing north. The Caravan spun around during the collision and was deflected into the east barrow ditch. The Caravan struck a tree with the right rear of the vehicle and came to rest upright, facing southbound.
Chavez is in serious condition at an Amarillo hospital.
The driver of the Caravan, Edgar Valazquez-Lopez, 45, of Borger, was pronounced dead at a Borger hospital. The passengers of the Caravan were 39-year-old Leticia Varel-Lopez of Borger who is in serious condition; Luz Maria Martinez, 74, of Borger who is in stable condition; Christen Velazquez-Lopez, 1, of Borger who is in stable condition. All passengers are being treated at an Amarillo hopsital.
