AFT implements online community for teachers

AFT launched the new program Tuesday, which is the result of the partnership with Britain's TES Connect.
"This gives a resource for teachers to not only to see what AISD teachers are doing, other teachers in Texas, but teachers across the nation," Amarillo Federation of Teachers Middle School Members Vice President Laura Abernathy said. "We can compare our lessons and how we're teaching our students to students across the nation and how they're learning."
The content of the website is developed by teachers for teachers, and it is free to all teachers, not just those who are members of AFT. Abernathy added districts in East Texas, San Antonio and Houston use the website, as well.
"It's a resource where teachers can find Smartboard lessons, Powerpoints. I teach science and there's actually science labs on there for all grade levels. This is K through 12. And you can also upload lessons."
AFT is hoping the additional resource will help teachers counter the impact of state budget cuts and also bring veteran educators up-to-date with new technology.
