Amarillo Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of south Mississippi at approximately 2:18 a.m. Friday morning.
According to AFD, a backyard shed was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. As they worked to fight the blaze, a utility pole, a second shed and a neighboring fence across the alley also caught fire.
AFD said the incident was complicated by large burning trees that were directly under the utility pole that was attached to a transformer. Crews had to use extreme caution during the incident to avoid the arc from a downed power line.
Xcel Energy crews later arrived on scene to cut the power allowing firefighters to get the fire under control at approximately 3:25 a.m.
At this time the cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries were reported in the incident however AFD estimates approximately $30,000 in property loss.
Amarillo Fire Department's Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.
