      Active Shooter protocols briefly initiated yesterday at Cannon AFB

      After clarification that the incident occurred at an off-base location, Active Shooter procedures were terminated within 20 minutes of the initiation.

      UPDATE: 8/14/14 10 a.m.: The Airman was medically evacuated to the University Medical Center in Lubbock, and is in stable condition. No further information can be released on the details of the Airman's condition or identity at this time.

      The incident is being investigated by civilian and military authorities.

      ORIGINAL:

      Based upon information that an Airman assigned to Cannon Air Force Base was a possible gunshot victim at an on-base location, base defense protocols were initiated at 4:49 pm Aug. 13.

      After clarification that the incident occurred at an off-base location, Active Shooter procedures were terminated within 20 minutes of the initiation.

      The incident is currently under investigation and additional details will be released as they are received.
