71-year-old woman dies after crashing into semi truck near Clarendon
CLARENDON, Texas (KVII) —
A 71-year-old woman from Duncanville, Texas died following a Wednesday afternoon crash on US-287.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Troopers were called to the crash about 11 miles west of Clarendon just after 2 p.m.
Investigating Troopers found that Donna Mays was driving a 2006 Ford Focus eastbound on US-287 when she "rapidly approached a pickup truck had traveling eastbound in the same lane in front of her."
DPS said the driver of the pickup truck had the hazard lights activated and was escorting slow-moving farm equipment.
According to DPS, Mays "took evasive action to avoid colliding with the rear of the pickup truck and lost control of her vehicle." The Ford traveled across the center median into the westbound land, crashing head-on into a semi truck that was westbound.
DPS said Mays was pronounced dead on the scene.
The two occupants of the semi truck were able to get out of the vehicle. They were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released. Both said they were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
It is unknown if Mays was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, due to the extensive damage to her vehicle.
DPS said the crash is still under investigation.
