S ix men have been indicted on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, for allegedly stealing more than $250,000 worth of irrigation pipes. Those pipes can be sold to salvage yards for cash.
Randall County District Attorney James Farren said his office is looking to expand those charges to include many other types of thefts that include a large portion of the Panhandle. Right now, he can't go into the types of property. Farren also said the county has jurisdiction because several of the crimes happened in Randall County.
The investigation leading to these charges has been ongoing for months, and evidence will show that the thefts have been going on for longer than that, according to Farren. He went on to say that it is rare to see organized crimes like this in rural areas.
The county has checked with other jurisdictions and found that the others thefts have the same M.O.
Additional arrests may be coming in the future.
