3 killed in wreck, DPS warns drivers of dangerous road conditions

UPDATE: DPS has released the names of those killed in the collision. 56-year-old Hector Perales, 42-year-old Tracey Jones and 45-year-old Bhupinder Singh Deol were killed and 11 others were injured.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, three people were killed and others injured in a major multi-vehicle wreck on eastbound Interstate 40 at mile marker 31 in Oldham County.

DPS says nine semi tractor-trailer trucks and two vehicles were involved. Two semis collided, which caused the other travelers to take evasive action. DPS says it resulted in three separate crashes.

Emergency crews were on scene to divert eastbound traffic to the service road while westbound traffic passed on the outside lane.

DPS says icy road conditions may have been a factor in the crash.

At this time DPS and emergency crews are responding to several wrecks in the area. Roads are icy and DPS is asking drivers to slow down and be prepared to stop. Be aware that black ice is on the roadways at this time.
