3 killed in Amarillo plane crash

3 people were killed in a plane crash Monday morning after the plane went missing for several hours in Amarillo.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the aircraft went missing around 2:00 a.m. east of Amarillo. DPS was told that the plane was supposed to land at Tradewind Airport but it was redirected to Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.

DPS said the aircraft over flew the Rick Husband Airport and was attempting to make another landing when controllers lost contact with the plane and its passengers.

Authorities began to search for the plane but their efforts were hampered due to the heavy fog in the area. Monday morning at approximately 7:15 a.m. the plane was recovered in a lake bed in Potter County.

Three people were killed in the crash. 19-year-old William Michael Capt II, Robin Lea Capt, 48, and William Michael Capt, 48. DPS said that the aircraft was recently purchased.

The incident is currently under investigation.
