More than a quarter of a million dollars was seized in a traffic stop on Interstate 40 earlier this week.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2007 Toyota Camry was stopped for a traffic violation about six miles west of Conway on I-40. The stop happened Monday morning, DPS said.
Driving the vehicle was 44-year-old Maria Vega-Montano of Tucson, Ariz.
During the traffic stop, DPS said it requested to consent to search the vehicle and it was granted.
Inside troopers found 23 bundles of currency totaling $287,500. DPS said the bundles were found concealed inside an after market compartment underneath the vehicle.
Vega-Montano was arrested and booked into the Carson County Jail on a charge of money laundering.
DPS said the money was headed to Nogales, Ariz. It originated in Georgetown, Ky., DPS said.
