2 dead after police chase ends in car crash

Amarillo Police have confirmed two people are deceased after leading officers on a car chase.

According to scanner traffic a truck was reported stolen at 8:40 p.m. Police say officers pursued the stolen vehicle until it reached high speeds.

The truck then crashed into a parked "semi-truck trailer," at Second and Vanburen. According to police, the driver and the passenger of the truck both died. No one was in the parked semi-truck trailer.

APD has locked down the scene until weather permits.

UPDATE: 2:20 A.M. 7/17/2014: Amarillo Police confirmed both the driver, 42, and the passenger, 31, were white males and wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The truck crashed into two "semi-truck trailers," but only one trailer flipped over. Speed was a definite factor in the cause of the crash and police are still unsure if alcohol was involved. The Amarillo Fire Department will be transfering the bodies to Lubbock for an autopsy.
