Michael Anthony Reyes, 18, was arrested for deadly conduct discharge of a firearm and 28-year-old Eric Matthew Benwire was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm after Amarillo Police caught up with a vehicle they were in. According to police the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that was just involved in a drive by shooting.
Tuesday night at approximately 7 p.m. Amarillo Police Officers in the downtown area heard what they thought were gun shots. Officers began to investigate the area and proceeded to Jackson and south west 2nd Street.
When officers arrived, witnesses began flagging them down and told them that the occupants of a small gray car had just shot at a house in the area. The witnesses told police that the driver of the vehicle had been the one shooting at the house.
APD officers spoke to the homeowner who was home at the time of the shooting with her children ages 12 and 5 when she heard the shot being fired. No injuries were reported and the homeowner told police she did not know who had shot at her house.
Officers later located the vehicle at south west 3rd and McMasters. The occupants of the vehicle were removed and identified by witnesses. When officers searched the vehicle, they found a semi automatic pistol. Reyes and Benwire were then arrested.
APD is still investigating the incident.
