According to the City of Amarillo, 150,000 gallons of wastewater was spilled earlier this morning after multiple pumps failed at a city wastewater collection facility. The spill happened about 8:30 this morning at 7100 Cliffside and crews were able to complete repairs to one of the pumps by approximately 11:30 a.m.
City officials said the wastewater was combination of domestic, commercial and industrial wastewater and that it flowed into a open pasture near the lift station. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, government officials and the Potter County Judge were notified of the spill.
The affected area has been cleaned and disinfected according to city officials. Approximately 4,000 gallons were recovered and placed back into the sewer collection system. Trucks also transported sewer water to another sewer collection system in an effort to minimize overflow impact.
