A 10-year-old boy was injured Thursday evening after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Washington Street just north of Wolflin.
Amarillo Police Department responded to the incident at approximately 6:10 p.m. and learned from witnesses at the scene that the boy was trying to cross the street with other pedestrians when he was struck by a white Dodge Durango. APD said they were attempting to cross the street during fairly heavy traffic and not in the cross walk.
According to APD, the driver of the vehicle and witnesses stopped to check on the child but the driver of the vehicle that struck him left the scene while others were attempting to help him.
The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
APD said the driver turned them self in and the case will be presented to the 47th District Attorneys office.
