An Oklahoma woman is dead after a major wreck in Potter County, bringing the toll to five traffic related deaths caused by hazardous road conditions.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety the crash was caused when the two people including the victim were travelling southbound in a Toyota pickup on U.S. Highway 87 crashed into a vehicle parked on the west side of the roadway. DPS said the pickup was travelling too fast for road conditions when the vehicle began to swerve, the vehicle left the roadway and struck the parked vehicle causing the pickup to overturn.
42-year-old Crystal Gonzales was killed in the wreck and three others were injured. 43-year-old Shannan Hensley was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital. Hensley is in stable condition with major injuries. 32-year-old Tanja Kye Purdy and 8-year-old Ethan Purdy were transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with minor injuries.
Roads are still icy and slick in some spots. Use caution when travelling, slow down and be prepared.
