1 killed, 4 injured after driver falls asleep

Just after midnight Monday the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 287 in Childress County.

According to a news release from DPS, 25-year-old Vanessa Marie Oages was driving west on U.S. Highway 287 when she fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle then drove off of the roadway into the the north side ditch and overturned multiple times. Three passengers were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

5-year-old Larry Louis Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining passengers including 5-year-old Aeyrn Oages, 8-year-old Alaya Oages, 27-year-old Anthony Eugene Cook and Vanessa Oages were transported to Childress Regional Medical Center where they are in stable condition.
