1 dead after police chase ends in crash

Emergency crews respond to the scene. APD blocked off the area for investigation.

UPDATE: Preliminary autopsy results indicate that 23-year-old Justin Abraham died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Monday afternoon Amarillo Police responded to a personal robbery at the Motel 6 in the 2000 block of Paramount.

The suspect and suspect's vehicle description were provided to police who later spotted the vehicle near 3rd Avenue and south McMasters. Police attempted to stop the vehicle. However the driver refused to stop and fired a shot a pursuing officers. After a brief chase the suspect crossed the intersection of 20th and north Arthur and went off the roadway and struck a house.

Officers approached the vehicle and found the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. Investigators have ordered an autopsy.
