One child is dead and six others were taken to a hospital after a car crash in Spearman early Monday morning.

Around 6 a.m., 32-year-old Luz Navarrete-Briones of Spearman was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon north of SH-207, approximately ten miles south of Spearman.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials said Navarrete-Briones fell asleep and veered off the roadway. When she woke up, she over corrected the steering, causing her to lose control of the car.

The car then rolled over multiple times causing two unrestrained child passengers to be ejected.

Navarrete-Briones's nine-year-old daughter was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her eight-year-old daughter was also ejected from the car, where she was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Officials said 64-year-old Anita Sanchez-Cid was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another passenger, 63-year-old Maria Navarrete was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released.

Navarrete-Briones and her three-year-old and 11-year-old sons were all transported to the hospital where they were treated and released, as well.

Authorities said all occupants, other than the two children that were ejected from the car, were properly restrained at the time of the crash.

DPS said the road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved. Officials said there are possible charges pending and the crash is still under investigation.
